December 09 / January 2010 Kidding

CSK BLOSSOM x CSK HEATH—Not exactly a planned kidding, red purebred buck Heath (out of Twix and Salsa) hopped a few fences and snuck in at night to breed Blossom. We let it go as he had some really nice kids last year and we’re curious what this cross might produce.

February 2010 Kidding

CSK FROST x CSK MERLOT—Frost is a registered 1/2 Boer 1/2 Angora doe, silver colored and stocky, out of Lacey, a registered silver Angora and the late 7A+ Sagebrush. She’s being bred to red fullblood CSK Merlot, out of Tubby and Lil Red.

CSK BLACK LICORICE x CSK MERLOT—Licorice is a black 50% Boer 50% Angora out of black Angora Shadow and red buck Hackberry Hill Salsa. She’s being bred to red fullblood CSK Merlot, out of Tubby and Lil Red.

BETTY x SAMIR—Betty’s a registered red Angora doe who’s consistently given us red kids. So we’re trying something new and breeding her to black Angora buck Samir, in the hopes of some black female offspring to add to our collection of black Angora does.

CSK JEWEL x BOULDER—This is a very exciting cross for us. Red Jewel is registered 3/4 Boer doe out of Silver and Salsa. Jewel spent her summer as the goat ambassador at the Manitowoc Lincoln Park Zoo. She’s back now and one of our first does being covered by our new and very young buck, B2N Boulder, nephew to the 2008 National Reserve Champion Buck, Polar Express.

CSK QUARTZ x BOULDER—Quartz is a full sister to Jewel (above), but with a buff head and white body. Since she and her sister are inseparable, she’s also being covered by Boulder.

CSK ATHENA x SAMIR– Athena’s a registered traditional fullblood, daughter of Lil Red and Tubby. In her first freshening, she produced quadruplets. We’re hoping for a little less pizzazz in this cross...we’d rather not have quads.

March 2010 Kidding

CSK COOKIE x CSK GRENDEL —Cookie’s a heavy milking 50% Boer doe out of Tubby and a grade dairy doe. Grendel’s turning out to be quite a nice man, and coming from Anne’s heavy milking line, we’re looking forward to seeing how these kids milk.

CSK BLACK BEAUTY x CSK GRIFFON—Beauty is a registered 50% Boer 50% Angora doe out of black Angora Midnight and red purebred Salsa. Beauty’s a pretty black doe and a good mother. She’ll be the first one freshening with Griffon’s kids. Griffon is a red fullblood out of Scarlet (Grandma Red daughter) and Merlot (red son of Tubby and Lil Red).

MIDNIGHT x CSK GRENDEL– Midnight is a well-proven mom, a registered black Angora. We’ve crossed her with Grendel this time around to see what she’ll produce. Red? Black? Traditional?

CSK BLACK PEARL x CSK GRENDEL- Pearl is a registered black 50% Boer doe out of Midnight and Tubby. Pearl is a proven mom.

CSK TWIX x BOULDER—Twix is not my favorite doe. She’s a drama queen, loud, doesn’t walk, and drives me crazy. She does, however, have consistently beautiful kids. She’s also a neurotically good mom and a heavy milker. Any how, she’s a registered traditional marked purebred, a daughter of Tweedledew, who goes back to Anne, and also a daughter of Tubby.

CSK TIGER LILY x CSK GRIFFON—Red Tiger Lily is a registered 7/8 Boer doe out of our (only) show doe CSK Blossom, daughter of Silver. Tiger Lily’s father is Salsa. We’re crossing her to Griffon and expecting awesome results! (ultrasound bred)

SILVER x BOULDER—Good ole Silver is still kicking. So far Silver has managed to create gorgeous deep-bodied kids with nice udders no matter who we’ve cross her to. Now we’re taking it up a notch and breeding her to Boulder. It’s so hard to pick a buck to cross her to. We never know if it’ll be our last breeding and we want all the does we can out of her.

LIL RED x BOULDER—We spoke with Lil Red and told her that twins this time around would be just fine. Having had 12 kids in two years, she doesn’t need to be proving anything else to us. Lil Red goes back to the Almond Acres line.

April 2010 Kidding

HOLLY  x BOULDER—Holly is a registered Toggenburg from Stardom Farms in Francis Creek. She’s given us a lot of nice wethers and does. Really looking forward to this cross though.

CSK DEMETER x BOULDER—Demeter is a red purebred quintuplet out of Lil Red and Salsa (both red). She’s a doting mother and we’re looking forward to seeing what she can produce with Boulder.

CSK ROSEBUD x BOULDER—What do you get when you cross a very long, deep bodied doe with a fat chunky monkey like Boulder? We’ll have to wait and see. Rosebud is a registered 88% Boer doe going back to Silver and Zsa Zsa’s line. She’s also out of Tubby.

May 2010 Kidding

APHRODITE x SAMIR Aphrodite is Demeter’s sister and registered red purebred out of Lil Red and Salsa. Samir is a registered black Angora. Why this cross? Because Angoras bloodlines run through the early Boers and they make meaty outstanding animals.

SWISS CHOCOLATE x BOULDER I don’t know where to start with Chocolate. She is so gorgeous and goes back to all our early lines, I just like sitting in the pasture and watching her. Dark red and out of CSK Latte and Salsa, this is going to be an exceptional cross.

BERRY x BOULDER. Berry is registered red purebred out of Lil Red and Salsa (when you have 12 of them, you end up with a lot of daughters). This is a thick doe and competition is tough when you place Chocolate and Berry side by side.
